Three Spirits, Three Times
A Christmas exhibition by UNtER4 in three acts exploring memory, the present and responsibility
During the Xmas season, three shop windows in Berlin are transformed into a public exhibition space. Inspired by Charles

The exhibition opens with a focus on the past. The artworks explore Germany’s historical ruptures and the origins of National
Socialism, drawing a connection to today’s culture of remembrance.
The second act turns its attention to the present. The works address current social developments, personal fears and the rise of
nationalist and anti-democratic positions. They explore the growing pressure on minorities, civil society initiatives, associations
and the cultural sector. The exhibition asks which historical patterns are repeating themselves today and what responsibilities
arise from this.
The third act is devoted to the future. It outlines a possible scenario and invites us to reflect on the consequences of our actions
today.
The exhibition is conceived as an artistic space for reflection. The shop windows display the art around the clock and invite
passers-by, amidst the hustle and bustle of the festive season, to pause, reflect and engage in conversation with one another.
Particularly during the festive season – a time for looking back and reflection – the exhibition serves as a reminder that the past,
present and future are inextricably linked. Just as Dickens holds up a mirror to Ebenezer Scrooge through his encounters with
the spirits, this exhibition turns the spotlight on our society – and asks whether we, too, will learn from history?
